What up doe!! So it seems 6/02/09 will be a HUGE day in hip hop. Along with the release of Tona's latest with yours' truly "Direct Deposit", a Jay Dee project mixed by Pete Rock will be out too! The album is a compilation of 28 unreleased Dilla tracks, with appearances by Black Thought, Blu, M.O.P, Havoc of Mobb Deep, Raekwon, etc. Truss, i'm EXTRA hype for next week!! Two classics on a Tuesday. Hip Hop is alive and well!! Peep the album snippets, press info and tracklisting below.....GO!

Jay $tay Paid (album snippets)

Curtailing any notion of jumping on some sort of Dilla bangwagon, Jay Stay Paid was executive produced by Dilla’s mother Maureen Yancey (aka Ma Dukes) along with the musical supervision of Dilla’s only real musical idol, Pete Rock. “It wasn’t rushed and it wasn’t haphazard,” explains Ms Yancey. “This album combines what he did in the beginning of his career, what he did in some of our early hospital stays, which was very deep, and some stuff pulled from old floppy disks & DATs. Its mind blowing…this is like the missing links to Dilla’s legacy.”

The format of the album plays like a radio show with Pete Rock as the program director. With regards to Pete’s involvement, Ms. Yancey gets very excited, “Dilla wanted to pattern himself behind Pete. His dream was to become as close as possible to what Pete stood for. Pete meant everything to him. Dilla would have just been flabbergasted! ” Pete’s sentiments were the same toward Dilla, “Dude was amazing. He just kinda came outta nowhere and the more you heard his beats the better they got. He may not be here with us, but it’s all good we’re going to keep his music alive and well.”

Random Thoughts/New Music: LISTENNNN!!!

Ha... that pic always kills me. Obviously theres a reason why i put it up. I'm here at work, web browsing, and i jumped on to one of my fave blog site's The Smoking Section. Its definitely a site with good taste and up to date news so, make sure y'all check it. So there i am scrolling the posts, and whadayaknow? They posted mine and Ayah's "Might Not Be" joint, in light of her new album "4:15" (pick that sh*t up, by the way!!). Nuff respect to the TSS crew, the review was on point. By now, im going through the comments, both love & hate... which i never mind. Feedback is feedback. I was cool until i came across this post...

Ayah is not a bad singer, but the production on “Might not be” sucks IMO - someone should definitely hook her up with another producer.. Regarding that, and sorry to rant, but what’s up with the “hey-why-don’t-I-delay-the-kick-and-snare-100ms-and-then-it’s-gonna-sound-real-dope” approach? Even the hihat is delayed FFS.. Because the ear will automatically adjust its perception of the timing according to the vocals (and the rest), it just sounds like the drummer is high on crack or something… Whether or not you like the kick + snare’s actual 6/8 time signature underneath it all, is a matter of taste I guess. But why the f*** does it need to be delayed as well - that ruins it for me..

FACK off loser. Miss me with all that technical bullsh*t. I'm glad you noticed my off-kilter drum patterns because i do it purposely, so herbs like you can call me out on it. Unlike the majority of upcoming producers, i DON'T program drums. The reason why is because i don't like my sh*t sounding all robot like (unless it's neccessary). From Sly, James, Marvin, Curtis..to Dilla, Pete Rock, Premier, RZA, Questlove.... they ALL have used this technique. And like my homie Dyce always says, "It's makes music more...human." To each's own tho, but i think homie posted this to gain cool points. So f*ck that. Go back to your cookie cutter music and keep reading the manual. I don't follow rules.... and never will.

Enough with the ranting. Here's some good music!!

J Dilla- "Jay Stay Paid Sampler"
Tanya Morgan (feat. Phonte)- "She's Gone" (Produced by AEON) GOODNESS FAM!!
Cool Kids (feat. Ryan Leslie) - "Weekend Girl"
Busta Rhymes (feat. Ron Browz & Flipmode)- "We Want In"

Mr. Hudson (feat. Kanye West)- "Supernova"
DJ Drama (feat. Nas, Willie The Kid, LA The Darkman & Marsha Ambrosius)- "Yacht Music"
